The product

Paygus collects field-based construction intelligence — building brands, developers, projects under construction and rental / sale / pre-sale listings — and sells it to real estate agents through a subscription platform. I joined as IT manager and shareholder and have led the technology for five years.

Seven generations, one business

Rewrites are risky. The business never stopped while the stack evolved underneath it:

  1. Legacy — React Native mobile app, PHP/MySQL backend and a PHP admin panel.
  2. Flutter — rewrote the mobile app in Flutter and moved the backend to Node.js + Express with WebSocket for real-time sync.
  3. Operators — built a Flutter operator panel on a Node.js REST API with MongoDB.
  4. Web & virtual tours — launched Flutter Web, then moved to HTML/CSS/JS and later a React app for 3D virtual tours (3DVista).
  5. Complete rewrite — replaced every panel with Directus (headless CMS) on PostgreSQL and dropped the mobile app for a responsive Next.js + Tailwind CSS web platform.
  6. GIS — integrated custom map layers with Leaflet for property intelligence.
  7. Performance — migrating the core backend to Go with Redis caching for high-speed listing delivery.

Decisions worth explaining

  • Directus instead of hand-built admin panels. Operators and content producers needed CRUD, roles and workflows — not bespoke UI. Directus on PostgreSQL removed a whole category of code we had to maintain.
  • Web-first instead of native. Agents use the product at their desks and on the go; a fast responsive Next.js app reached everyone with one codebase and SEO for free.
  • Go for the hot path. Listing search is read-heavy and latency-sensitive; moving it to Go with Redis caching frees Directus to do what it's good at.

Beyond software

I also launched a content division (blogging, Instagram, video, photography and 3D tours for construction brands) and a white-label brand website product: the same backend with customised frontends, hosted on our platform or deployed as standalone corporate sites.

  • Proprietary map layers built on Leaflet.
